18: The Best Plans Are Always Spontaneous – Ubud, Bali, Indonesia

Day 92 of my Southeast Asia Trip

Today began with a mild hangover and a walk to Life Crate. Ree and Bianca had been there for breakfast yesterday and loved it. They have an amazing menu of smoothie bowls, coffee, toasties, just everything. It’s all super delicious and really good value. I had toast with avocado, pesto, poached egg, feta and spinach, along with my first flat white in what feels like forever. The place was so busy and I could see why – the food was delicious!

The girls had both checked out of the hostel and were planning their next destination. I still had a third night booked in Canggu but decided I wanted to stick with them and accompany them to Ubud. I always think it’s best to stick with good people that you meet, because it’s always the company that makes your time more memorable in a place.

We got a taxi to Ubud at about 12:30 and arrived around 2. Our hostel is called Griya Sugriwa and its definitely one of the nicest I’ve stayed in. It’s like staying in a temple almost and has the nicest pool with lilos!! We also get free breakfast here which is amazing.

After a few hours of relaxation, we headed for a wander into the main town. Ubud is basically just a massive collection of nice shops and cool places to get food. There’s definitely a sense of more culture here compared to the other beach towns in Bali. Our hostel is about a 15 minute walk out of town so we had a good explore of the area.

We opted for an all your can eat vegan & vegetarian buffet for our dinner. It cost about £3.50, was very tasty and in a really lovely location! For dessert we headed next door for some gelato.

I’ve had a nice day today and am glad I decided to spontaneously head to Ubud. Having travel companions is always fun and it takes the edge off that constant self reliance. Tomorrow we plan to hire scooters and see some more of Ubud which I’m looking forward to!
